Continual engine management issues with multiple parts replaced - all solved for a month or so and then re appear, but a different unit fails. Injectors, ignition modules, ecu, software remapped to newer version etc etc. So dissapointed, my 1st BMW and it's rubbish. Problems well documented agoungt owners with 2. Petrol engine 3 series, buy BMW wont admit it - it gets fixed everytime but just delays the inevitable. Dont even think about using it in the snow either. I feel sorry for who ever owns it privately in the future. Thank heavens I will replace it this year.

Some of the main dealer parts prices are a bit high, but then there's always GSF & Euro. Car. Parts if you really get stuck. Driving it really is a dream, the handling and dynamics do make me feel connected to the car and able to feel what is happening, and with enough power from the 3 litre diesel unit for it still to be a bit of fun. Two significant faults over the cars lifetime required costly investigation and repair - . Fuel consumption is good for a 3 litre, insurance ok, road tax . Due to me having a heavy right foot, fuel costs are on the high side, but have found spare parts reasonable (considering the marque) and specialist garages offer low cost servicing and maintenance. I can say is it tends to drink oil with the electronic dip stick I constantly monitor this. Petrol consumption is good for engine size/type/performance. The Efficient Dynamic engines are running too lean and seem prone to putting too much stress on the engine causing components to fail far too early for the age of the car. Reliability: 1/5. There have been rattles engine problems, the appalling ride and high fuel costs to contend with. I can't wait to get ride of this car and would never consider another one. Only one reliability issue in two years, and that hasn't stopped me using the car daily. For a ten year old, 3 litre engine, my costs so far have been better than hoped for. Servicing is relatively inexpensive even at a main dealer, run- flat tyres may be a blessing if you obtain puncture on the motorway or late at ight but they certain cost a pretty packet, . But next time I do not want such low profile tyres , they can be a problem on uneven road surfaces , like country roads . I have thrown more tyres away with pinched sidewalls , than I've worn out .
